Design principle


One-way perspective mirror is also known as a single mirror, atomic mirror. But in fact, it is a "two-sided mirror", its front and rear optical properties are not different at all. Since there is no difference, why is the effect different on both sides? Actually, the principle among them is very simple, can produce the effect that the one side reflects light, it is the intensity of the environment light that places by two sides of the mirror is caused differently. Below, we explain the formation of one-way perspective by analyzing the manufacture of mirrors and the path of light.


In manufacturing, the glass surface of a single-sided mirror is coated with a very thin silver or aluminum film, which, unlike ordinary mirrors, does not reflect all incident light, but allows half of it to pass through and the other half to be reflected back. In modern times, two layers of 6mm toughened glass coated with nano-metal chromium-aluminum are more commonly used, which are sandwiched by high-strength PVB adhesive (the glass consists of two layers, and the material of each layer is toughened glass coated with nano-metal chromium-aluminum). In this paper, only the single-sided mirror of coating is used for analysis.


Optical path, as shown in figure (1) : assume that the circle and triangle are separated by glass with the above manufacturing characteristics, and the two Spaces are 1 and 2. A circle is in a room with strong light, and a triangle is in a room with weak light.


Figure (2) simulates the transmission and reflection of light. That is to say, from the point of view of 1, glass is equivalent to a plane mirror, you can only see yourself; If you look from 2, you can see everything in 1, but you can't use it as a mirror. If you change the intensity of light to 1 and 2, you get the opposite effect. You can see triangles from 1 and not circles from 2.

Type of illumination


The illumination of the target side should shine evenly on the wall and furniture. Do not turn the wall lamp of the observer side toward or shine on the glass. The illumination above the observer side should be dim.


The background color


The colors on the observer side should be bright, and the walls, furniture, and floors on the observer side should be soft, non-reflective, and uniformly dull, minimizing patterning and avoiding contrasting colors.


Distance and brightness levels


Let the person who is observed keep a certain distance, it is recommended to use a 10:1 light ratio, the observed side is bright, the observed side is dim.


Minimize line of sight penetration


Keep any light on the observed side as far away from the glass as possible. A distance of 1 meter is recommended.
