China's high-speed rail has 6 layers of bulletproof glass, which cannot be penetrated by aluminum bullets even when accelerated

High speed rail is currently the most relied upon transportation tool in China. However, since its operation, China's high-speed rail has encountered very few accidents, which has amazed many people. The safety of China's high-speed rail mainly relies on various protective equipment, such as the window glass on the high-speed rail, which is an important part of protection. It is understood that the glass used in China's high-speed rail has 6 layers of bulletproof glass. With the protection of the 6 layers of glass, even aluminum bullets accelerating impact cannot penetrate. In this regard, foreigners give a thumbs up and say that China's high-speed rail is really powerful!

China is currently the world's strongest high-speed rail construction country. China's high-speed rail is not only technologically advanced, but also the only one in the world in terms of scale. So far, China has nearly 40000 kilometers of high-speed rail mileage. In 2019, the monthly passenger flow of China's high-speed rail reached an astonishing 306 million, which means that half of the country's people choose high-speed rail as their mode of transportation. In this situation, how to ensure the safety of high-speed rail trains has become a difficult problem. The dispatch of the control center is only one aspect. In many cases, the safety of high-speed rail also depends on the protective equipment equipped by the train itself.

The window glass of high-speed trains is one of the important guarantee devices to ensure train safety. Unlike ordinary car windows, the technical requirements for the window glass used by high-speed trains are higher, because high-speed trains often travel at speeds of more than 200-300 kilometers per hour. At this speed range, even a small stone raised by the high-speed train during operation can cause serious damage to the window. Once the window is damaged, the shattered glass will not only prevent the high-speed train from running normally, but also cause injury to personnel in the cabin. To avoid this situation, high-speed train window glass generally uses high hardness glass with good optical performance and explosion-proof performance.

Due to the use of a 6-layer protection design, the impact resistance of high-speed rail window glass is very strong. In tests, this type of glass once withstood the impact of an aluminum bullet traveling at a speed of about 355 kilometers per hour, which is not only the case in the laboratory. In reality, high-speed rail window glass has also undergone "practical testing". In 2013, the G38 high-speed rail train was attacked by a flying bird on its way from Hangzhou to Beijing. Due to the high-speed rail traveling at a speed of 300 kilometers per hour at that time, the energy of the flying bird's impact was equivalent to that of a 500 kilogram heavy object, hitting the glass with 5000 newtons of power. Thanks to the 6-layer protection design of the high-speed rail glass, the flying bird only penetrated the front 4 layers of glass, which is why it was hit. Resulting in no major accidents.

In addition to strong impact resistance, the car window glass used in high-speed trains also undergoes special optical treatment to minimize the dizziness of the human eye, which greatly reduces the phenomenon of motion sickness on high-speed trains. Such high-end car window glass has manufacturing technology in only a few countries in the world. Before 2007, China had to rely on introducing foreign car window glass in this regard. However, after years of research and development by Chinese enterprises, China finally mastered the production technology of high-speed railway car window glass. Currently, the largest high-speed railway car window glass manufacturer in China is Jiangsu Tiegan Glass Company, which not only breaks the technological monopoly of foreign countries in high-speed railway car window glass, but also supplies about 80% of domestic high-speed railway car window glass.

Overall, although the window glass of high-speed trains may seem ordinary, it actually contains powerful performance and great production difficulties. With China's localization of window glass, there will be no obstacles to the faster development of high-speed trains in the future. The "bulletproof vests" made in China will not only be widely equipped on domestic high-speed trains, but will also gradually go overseas in the future.
