The Facade Glass Design Creates a Dynamic Feeling of 'Blowing and Flying'

The project is the holding company of Hetai Automobile Co., Ltd., the largest automobile agency in Taiwan, China, China. Its Heyu Group's headquarters office building is located in Taiwan. The design challenge is to create a landmark building with architectural aesthetics, while representing the enterprise spirit of pursuing innovation and breakthrough in professional fields.

Facade Design: Wind, Motion, and Dance

The design concept comes from fluid mechanics, which cannot visualize fluids, but can faithfully reflect the corresponding objects being designed. This project attempts to create a rhythmic shape in the building, responding to the facade being swept by wind (fluid).

We use dandelion as the best medium for flow performance. Using Grasshopper parametric design, digital operations overlay the scattered images of dandelion seeds onto the building facade. The front facade is composed of two orthogonal and three inclined planes, which retreat inward in the south of the first floor and the top floor space. The wind is like a sharp blade, shaping a diamond cut shape. The facade glass unit displays the dynamic feeling of dandelions scattering and flying.

Modular Rectangular Curtain Wall

The curtain wall adopts a modular design to achieve the effect of glass dancing. Supported by steel frames, two triangles form a complete rectangular unit within the same mold moment. The building shell consists of 1447 glass units, of which 102 units dance on the facade as the diagonal axis rotates.

By adjusting the position, size, and connection of curtain wall components, the main diagonal lines are mainly arranged, and the orthogonal secondary grids coincide with them. The dancing unit has inclined surfaces inward or outward on four sides. When joining, it is still necessary to maintain orthogonality with adjacent units, which becomes an innovative design on the component.
