Doors and windows play a very important role in our homes.
In terms of basic functionality, people hope to have a good view indoors and allow sufficient sunlight to shine inside. At the same time, people also hope that cold, heat, noise, rain, and danger can be blocked outside, making our home a warm and safe harbor for us.
Today, starting from the perspective of glass, which accounts for the largest area of doors and windows, let's understand the impact of glass on doors and windows, as well as how to choose good door and window glass.
Many people often encounter such scenarios when choosing doors and windows, where salespeople spend a lot of time introducing aluminum alloy systems and hardware from various aspects. When it comes to glass, it's often just a few words.
What's the reason? Is glass not important?
On the contrary - glass not only occupies the vast majority of the area of doors and windows, but also plays an extremely important role in meeting people's different demands for the functionality of doors and windows! However, in the logistics supply chain of home decoration doors and windows, glass has always been a weak link because the quantity is small, the specifications are diverse, and no one in large glass processing enterprises is willing to place orders for home decoration doors and windows. We often use the most basic glass products produced by small factories or even workshops. Over the long term, door and window factories have neglected the functionality of glass and only focused on the technology of profiles and hardware.
Next, let's get to the point and introduce some knowledge and skills for identifying glass!
Is the glass tempered:
Legitimate glass tempering enterprises need to pass the national CCC certification, and each enterprise has a 3C certification number that needs to be printed on the glass products. As shown in the figure, the 3C number of a hollow glass product is E000105. By searching online, you will find that this number belongs to the trademark next to "Shanghai Yaopi Glass Group", which also proves that this product is a Yaopi Glass product. Tempered products must have the above 3C mark and number. If you see that the product does not have the 3C mark and number, it is either not tempered or produced by unqualified small factories. If there is no tempered steel, there will be many safety hazards in the future.
The self explosion of glass:
Tempered glass products sometimes burst on their own during high temperatures in summer, and glass self explosion is a difficult phenomenon to avoid. Although the country also allows tempered glass to have a self explosion rate of 0.3%, the use of low-quality raw materials by small factories can lead to a much higher self explosion rate. Self explosion glass scenes are everywhere in residential areas, and we are all familiar with them.
Hollow quality judgment:
The hollow of glass is mainly for energy conservation. There are many dimensions to judge the quality of glass insulation production, but there is one that can reflect the quality of a product very well. This is an aluminum tube with a hollow cavity. Legitimate enterprises use a hotel bent frame. Small businesses will use four straight pipes to assemble. The main risk of the latter is that it can easily cause air leakage in the hollow cavity, resulting in the scrapping of the hollow glass. The difference is shown in the following diagram:
In addition, regarding the width of the hollow cavity, it is generally 12 millimeters and 9 millimeters. The insulation capacity is relatively poor, and around 16 millimeters is the best. If it is wider, it is easy to form convection inside the cavity, and the insulation performance will decrease. I have seen some manufacturers choose 24mm or even wider doors and windows, although the price is higher, the performance is actually declining.
Is it genuine LOW-E glass?
More and more people now know the benefits of LOW-E, and from the perspective of energy-saving regulations, it is already considered a basic product. Many doors and windows have also begun to claim to use LOW-E glass, which is coated with several layers of film on the glass surface and can have good energy-saving and thermal insulation effects. But many LOW-E products are highly transparent and not much different from transparent glass. Some businesses use this to deceive consumers. So how to distinguish whether LOW-E glass has been used?
Generally speaking, LOW-E membrane is located on the inner side (second side) of the hollow glass outdoor panel. When viewed carefully from the side, a faint layer of blue or gray membrane should be visible. In addition, I have a unique secret: use a lighter and look at flames close to the glass. One flame will have three shadows. On the side with LOW-E film, the third flame shadow appears light blue, while the others turn red. The three flames of ordinary glass are all red, and the color of the third flame is only very light, which cannot be seen when the light is bright. As shown in the following figure:
LOW-E glass is divided into online and offline types. Offline LOW-E performance ranges from low to high, with single silver, double silver, and triple silver. Online LOW-E performance is approximately equal to single silver.
① Brand recognition of glass:
There are four well-known brands in the glass industry: Yaopi, Nanbo, Xinyi, and Taibo.
② Safety issues with glass:
Tempered glass and laminated glass are both called safety glass. Tempered glass will break when struck with sharp tools, and the broken shape is granular, which will not harm people. In terms of anti-theft and shock resistant safety, the most basic requirement is to use PVB adhesive.
③ Silent issue with glass:
Hollow cavities do not provide sound insulation. The most basic condition for sound insulation is good sealing of windows. On the basis of sealing, the sound insulation ability of glass is very important. The thicker the glass, the better the sound insulation, and the soft film structure in the middle of the glass is crucial for sound insulation. The ideal sound insulation effect is for indoor noise to be below 40 decibels. Everyone can choose suitable silent products based on their surrounding environment.
